Charlotte Latin School is seeking a Lower School (Grades TK-5) Physical Education teacher beginning in the 2026-27 school year. This position reports to the Physical Education K-12 Chair and is an integral part of the Lower School Division. This is a full-time, ten-month position that begins in August of 2026. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Physical Education Teacher & Athletics Team Coach • Teach Physical Education to elementary school students and demonstrate exercises to students • Communicate effectively with Department Chair and Division Head • Manage equipment used in classes • Maintain a safe environment • Work as a team with other teachers in the department, including sharing space & equipment. • Help manage Lower School Playground • Attend department and division meetings • Coach one of the three athletic seasons • Perform other job-related duties as assigned Qualifications Education and Experience • Bachelor's degree in Physical Education or Health required • Three to five years of experience teaching elementary school Physical Education required • Experience teaching in an independent school preferred • Three to five years of experience coaching a sport preferred Skills • Exhibit a love of working with children in this age group • Strong understanding of child development and age-appropriate curriculum • Strong classroom management skills, commitment to safety and civility • Strong desire to participate in the whole life of the school • Exhibit willingness to grow with a hunger for learning new material and new ways of teaching • Show a great deal of flexibility in working with colleagues and students and sharing classroom space • Willing and able to resolve conflicts with colleagues, parents, and between students • The ability to build a strong rapport with colleagues and serve as a collaborative team player • Communicates effectively with school administration, colleagues, staff, and families of participating students • Maintains organization and attention to detail • Adheres to the highest level of professionalism Working Conditions and Environment • Intermittently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 25 pounds • Continuously see, sit, balance, grasp, and have repetitive use of arms, wrists, hands, and fingers; and some fine finger dexterity • Frequently talk and hear • Intermittently stand, stoop, bend, twist, crouch, kneel, crawl, walk, climb stairs and ladders, operate foot and hand controls, squeeze, and reach above shoulders. • Exposure to dust, chemicals, fumes, flammables, grease, dirt, stacked materials, electrical equipment, machinery, low to medium noise levels, and moderate indoor temperatures of heat and cold • Outdoor work in hot and cold temperatures • Long or odd hours, as needed
