Job Description
AECOM is seeking an experienced Senior Environmental Planner specializing in the permitting of infrastructure development to join our growing Texas Environmental Planning & Permitting team.
This hybrid position can be based out of our Dallas, Houston or Austin, TX offices.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
• Manages complex clients and projects.
• Oversees specialized planning functions, such as large-scale new development proposals and environmental studies.
• Supervises and mentors team members on multiple projects or programs assignments.
• Develops and evaluates plans and criteria for a variety of projects and activities to be carried out by others.
• Assesses the feasibility and soundness of proposed planning products.
• Monitors and ensures compliance with local, state and federal laws.
• Advises various councils, boards, commissions and elected officials in planning related issues.
• Evaluates operations and activities of assigned responsibilities.
• Prepares reports on operations and activities, recommending improvements and modifications.
• Position requires that the candidate must be able to travel for agency/client meetings as well as field work kick-off and auditing as required.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in environmental science, biology, environmental planning, natural/biological resource management or other related field experience
• 8 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education in successfully supporting environmental impact analysis documents and associated technical studies, including National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) compliance, Endangered Species Act (ESA) compliance, avian and bat studies, natural resources surveys, and Clean Water Act (CWA) permitting.
• Valid U.S. Driver's license is required.
• Due to the nature of this work, U.S. Citizenship is required
Preferred Qualifications:
• Master’s Degree in relevant field.
• 10+ years of work experience in related field, environmental permitting, NEPA compliance, natural resources management, and/or cultural resources management consulting industry.
• Knowledge of Texas and other state public utility commission (PUC) requirements and related experience with wind and solar siting, transmission line routing, and preparing PUC applications.
• Strong, current and recent experience with federal agencies, state agencies energy development companies, electric transmission developers, utilities and other private companies.
• Demonstrated leadership in proposal development and successful pursuit of competitive bids.
• Experience with environmental permitting, NEPA, relevant environmental regulations and processes, and the associated public engagement processes.
• Demonstrated ability to manage environmental planning projects, including client interaction, schedule and budget controls, and invoicing.
• Strong experience with client relationship building and leading and delivering environmental permitting services, including ability to manage projects, interdisciplinary teams, and workload, as well as interface with clients.
• Established agency and client relationships with ability to market and win work successfully and effectively for the team, office and region as related to the transportation, utility, high-tech, and other infrastructure sectors.
• Experience working in a fast-paced consulting environment, managing and mentoring staff
• High degree of self-motivation and the ability to work independently with limited supervision, as well as in a collaborative team environment.
• Organizational management skills and ability to delegate, multi-task and perform detail-oriented work.
